For thirty years I lived inside the martial, wellness, and somatic arts. After master's studies in China I came home to Egypt and opened a small academy where people came to train the body and, without quite naming it, to find their way back to themselves.

Almost everyone arrives with a goal. Make the decision. Steady the confidence that keeps leaking. Start the chapter that won't start. The goal is real, and we take it seriously — it is the reason you came.

By now we've spoken a great deal about presence. But presence to what? Here is something easy to miss: you can only be fully present to one thing at a time. Presence isn't a floodgate thrown open; it's a matter of where you place your attention.

Think of the last time you walked toward a meeting you knew would be hard. Moments before the door opened, something happened in your body: a slight tightening in the jaw, heat rising in the chest.

Almost every time I explain Somatic Thinking, a quiet question arrives at a certain point: "This is lovely… but isn't it what others are saying too?" I love that question. I don't dodge it.

This reader arrives with a face I know well. Not arrogant — trained. They've read the literature, sat through the conferences, and can tell a sturdy idea from a decorated one. I respect that objection, and I don't run from it.

Picture a man standing, suddenly ablaze with anger. Before he can even bring his mind to bear on it, the Prophetic guidance reaches him with an instruction aimed first at his body. This is the cleanest expression I know of a truth I have built my life's work upon: feelings are built upon sensations in the body first.

Every time I sit before someone who hears the word "coaching" for the first time, I can almost watch the sentence form in their eyes: this is something foreign to us. And I will make a claim that may sound large: that coaching, rightly understood, is not an import from the West, but a revival of the role of the murabbi.
